Pre-Submission Checklist
Ensure that the following items are present:
- The manuscript has been formatted as per the instructions of this journal.
- All necessary files have been uploaded.
- References are in the correct format (Vancouver style) for this journal.
- All Figures and Tables mentioned in the main text are cited in the text, and vice versa.
- Photographs, scientific graphs, and other illustrations are uploaded as separate files, not embedded in Microsoft Word.
Cover Letter
All manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter. The letter should include the following statements:
- The submitted paper is an original and unpublished work in which the listed authors have all made essential contributions.
- The authors have not submitted the same material or portions therefore for consideration of publication in any other journal.
- Statement of any potential conflict of interest.
Authors are welcome to suggest three to five referees for their paper; however, the editors cannot guarantee the assignment of a particular review to a paper. Any unusual circumstances surrounding the research or explanations for deviation from standard procedures or format should be explained in the cover letter.
Article Types
Original Research Papers
Original research papers should present new results of interest to a broad spectrum of pathologists. They should be arranged as follows: Title page, Abstract, Abbreviations, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Declarations, References, Figure legends. The maximum length is 5,000 words. Abstracts must not exceed 250 words and should be a single narrative paragraph. Submissions are limited to a total of 7 figures and 100 references.
Case Reports
Considered only if they represent a significant advance in diagnostic methods, therapy, and prognosis. They should be arranged as follows: Title page, Abstract, Abbreviations, Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, References, and legends. Maximum 2000 words. Abstracts should not exceed 150 words and must include Background, Case & Conclusion.
Short Communication
For rapid communications justifying very rapid publication due to exceptionally broad general interest or strikingly novel findings. Short Communications are limited to 2000 words.
Letters to the Editor
Submitted only by invitation from the Editor-in-Chief, relating to recently published papers or brief unusual findings. Maximum length of 400 words, one table/figure, and max 10 references.
Review Articles
Pre-submission is required (send title/abstract to modernmedlab
gmail.com). Systematic reviews and meta-analyses should follow PRISMA statement recommendations.
Title Page Preparation
- Title: Should be concise and informative. Include the study design if applicable.
- Author Information: Full first names and surnames (separated by commas). Include affiliations (institution, department, city, country), and the 16-digit ORCID if available. Clearly indicate the corresponding author with name, address, e-mail, telephone, and fax.
- Abstract: 250 words or less, structured (Objectives, Materials & Methods, Results & Discussion) on a separate sheet. Avoid abbreviations.
- Keywords: 4 to 6 keywords for indexing.
- Highlights: 3 to 6 bullet points describing the essence of the research. Max 100 characters per highlight.
- Graphical Abstract (Optional but encouraged): Size 560 × 1100 pixels (H×W) at 96 dpi. Preferred formats: TIFF, EPS, SVG, or PDF.
- Abbreviations: Provide a list on the title page. Expand acronyms at first mention in the text.
Text Formatting & Headings
The manuscript should be typed double-spaced, using a normal, plain font (e.g., 12-point Times New Roman) and submitted in Word. Use the automatic page numbering function. Please use no more than three levels of displayed headings. Abbreviate units of measure only when used with numbers.
Footnotes: Can be used to give additional information. Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively; those to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters. Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.
Declarations
All manuscripts must contain the following sections. If not relevant, write 'Not applicable':
- Acknowledgments: Contributors who do not meet criteria for authorship, technical help, or material support.
- Funding: Information on who supported the research.
- Conflicts of interest: Appropriate disclosures.
- Authors' contributions: Specify the contribution of each author.
- Ethics approval: Include appropriate approvals or waivers.
References (Vancouver Style)
References should be arranged in order of citation in the text in the Vancouver style and numbered consecutively. This journal uses the Vancouver reference format for EndNote users.
Journal (Less than six authors): Vega KJ, Pina l, Krevsky B. Heart transplantation is associated with an increased risk for pancreatobiliary disease. Ann Intern Med 1996 Jun 1; 124(11):980-3.

Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
Kept to a necessary minimum (no more than seven) without duplicating text information.
- Always cite tables/figures in consecutive numerical order.
- Supply a caption explaining the components. Table footnotes use superscript lower-case letters.
- Figures should be submitted separately from the text. Include captions in the manuscript text file, beginning with Fig. followed by the number in bold type.
- Color images should be at least 300 DPI in JPEG, TIFF, or BMP format.

Ethical Requirements
Human studies require local ethical committee approval and informed consent. Animal studies need evidence of adherence to ethical guidelines. (Refer to the Declaration of Helsinki if lacking a formal committee).
Permissions & Copyright
Permissions to cite unpublished observations or reproduce published figures must be obtained by authors. Mod Med Lab J allows authors to hold and retain publishing rights without restrictions. The main author is responsible for ensuring all co-authors approve the article and appropriate copyright releases are secured.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors must declare funding sources and potential conflicting interests. This Journal uses the ICMJE Form for Disclosure of Potential Conflicts of Interest.
